Great Falls Balloon Festival
One of the biggest attractions in Lewiston-Auburn and one of Maine’s premier festivals takes place every August and features dozens of gorgeous hot air balloons. With an estimated 100,000 attendees, The Great Falls Balloon Festival is one of the largest hot air balloon festivals in New England, and includes live musical performances, carnival rides, food vendors, children’s games, radio remote broadcasts, and other entertainment. Each year, organizers feature special character balloons shaped like the U.S. Flag, cartoon bears, the Space Shuttle, and animals of all types. To see 40 balloons ascend on a beautiful summer morning or evening is truly awe-inspiring. What’s better, you can even be in one of those balloons if you pay! Morning and evening launches are held during the three-day event. Mark your calendar: the next festival takes place Aug. 15-17, 2008.
